Six pack

I am tremendously grateful for CrossFit. My health journey led me to find this "sport of fitness". It has made me stronger and healthier. At times it has helped my body image -- like at the beginning when I was just starting out. I lost weight.

Over time though, I put on muscle, introduced a baby into my life, lost out on sleep and put on weight. My clothes all stopped fitting. You know the one thing about gaining weight that is most frustrating  --- it's all my fault. I let down my guard. I wasn't watching my intake or limiting myself enough. I let it happen. I lost control.

It is exhausting trying to maintain control over everything...

Here is the thing about CrossFit - the body image. There are these amazingly genetically gifted ladies out there who get six packs and definition just by looking at a weight. Then there are those that may be inclined to it and need to lose some of the weight hiding their muscles. Then there are the rest of us. It just isn't going to happen. We are not genetically inclined to ever get a six pack. Why do we need a six pack anyway?

But if they can have it, why can't I? It becomes the new thing women are trying to attain. Albeit better than the media - skinny, tall blah, blah, blah. At least these women are strong and have big thighs and arms. They have like zero body fat though!

For me, I will never get paid to do a sport. I may compete and I may win something - but it is out of fun, not my livelihood. I want to maintain 75kg for weightlifting and continue to train. I want to continue to improve my technique and increase my weights. I want to sleep and eat well and be in top shape for my daily responsibilities. I want to be successful in whatever I define success as - not what someone else does -- like a six pack.

Amen!
